Cambodia Casinos

There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino betting is against the law. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and even though visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, highlights 150 slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that highlights many amenities accompanying the gambling den, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 table games.
