Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is illegal. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau casino, features 150 slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel compound that highlights many luxuries in addition to the gambling den, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight table games.
